Night of the Living Dead, 1968 – ★★★★

It shows its age, and some of the performances are overwrought and kind of hacky, but it’s still obvious why this is a classic of the genre. It’s also fascinating to realize just how influential a film this was, with so many zombie tropes we’ve come to take for granted appearing here for what is surely the first time. The DNA from this film is very apparent in every zombie movie since, up to and including The Walking Dead.
