Barbie Video Game Hero, 2017 – ★★★

So I’m cheating a little bit including this on the Time Wasters Challenge as I actually watched this a few weeks ago before I figuring out my challenge films, but I’ll be honest, I’m in no rush to head back to the Barbieverse.

In Barbie Video Game Hero, Barbie gets sucked into a video game and forced to play games in order to prevent some kind of viral infection from spreading. Which she does, and along the way she manages to teach her NPC companions important lessons about friendship and working together. Which shouldn’t matter because NPCs are computer programs who shouldn’t be able to do anything outside of their programming, but on well.

I think my favorite part of this film is that at the beginning Barbie is coding her own game, which I thought was a really great message for girls, and got me and my daughter talking about whether she might want to learn to code some day. Go Barbie!
